This is a place for my fav photos i take its mostly gonna be wildlife and 90% gonna be birds.

2026-04-01 — Darktable workflow & high ISO — quick notes

I shoot RAW (NEF) and process in Darktable on NixOS.

MY STANDARD PIPELINE ORDER:
  1. Exposure (get the histogram right first)
  2. White balance (usually auto works for outdoor daylight)
  3. Denoise (profiled denoise, using D5200 profile)
  4. Lens correction (distortion + CA)
  5. Tone curve (slight S-curve)
  6. Color calibration (if needed)
  7. Sharpening (diffuse and sharpen module)
  8. Export to JPEG, sRGB, 90% quality

The module I use most unexpectedly: Color calibration. The blue-purple of the swamphen looks wrong without adjustment — too purple, not enough blue.
